In our unwavering commitment to the preservation and sustainable management of our oceans, seas, and marine resources, the Yemen Center for Strategic Studies and Research (YCSSR) is proud to introduce our Oceans, Seas, and Marine Resources Programme. Recognizing the vital importance of healthy marine ecosystems for biodiversity, livelihoods, and food security, our programme seeks to address the pressing challenges facing Yemen’s coastal and marine environments.
Yemen, endowed with rich marine biodiversity and coastal ecosystems, faces significant threats from pollution, overfishing, habitat degradation, and climate change. These challenges not only endanger marine life but also undermine the well-being of coastal communities that depend on marine resources for their sustenance and livelihoods. In response, our programme is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices and fostering resilience in Yemen’s oceans and seas.
Aligned with international efforts to protect marine environments, our programme aims to prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution, including marine debris and nutrient pollution, from land-based activities. By promoting responsible waste management practices and raising awareness among stakeholders, we seek to preserve the health and integrity of marine ecosystems.
Furthermore, we are committed to sustainably managing and protecting marine and coastal ecosystems to avoid significant adverse impacts and promote their restoration. Through collaborative partnerships and community engagement, we strive to strengthen the resilience of marine habitats and enhance their capacity to withstand environmental pressures.

Central to our approach is the promotion of science-based management practices and the implementation of regulations to address overfishing, illegal fishing, and destructive fishing practices. By enforcing sustainable fishing quotas and marine protected areas, we aim to restore fish stocks and ensure the long-term viability of fisheries for future generations.
Partners
As we embark on this journey towards ocean conservation and sustainable use, we invite collaboration and partnership from stakeholders across sectors. Together, let us work towards a future where Yemen’s oceans and seas are healthy, productive, and resilient, supporting the well-being of coastal communities and sustaining marine biodiversity for generations to come.
